During the first nine years of the USC Annenberg/Getty Fellowship, 64 arts journalists participated in the program. That’s a talented group of professionals who range across all media and areas of culture. This group is the “engine” behind Engine29.
In the summer of 2011, we asked them to propose projects that addressed our Five Areas of Interest.
We got almost 40 proposals. Many were quite ambitious, so much so it was difficult to see how they might be completed in 10 days. Others were great fantasies that were perhaps a bit impractical. But there were many more we could almost see in front of us. A number of themes also emerged. So we arranged and rearranged and combined and pulled apart ideas, projects and journalists and finally came up with six projects we thought we could do. Here are the projects that were submitted in response to our request for proposals.
